JAZZ AT THE AYALA MUSEUM Presents The Executive Band

JAZZ AT THE AYALA MUSEUM Presents The Executive Band

Senator Raul Manglapus founded the Executive Band in 1957. It was initially a small group of middle-aged professionals getting together after office hours to jam as a form of relaxation. They were all relatively well known in their particular professions. Raul Manglapus was a former senator and was Secretary of Foreign Affairs then, Chito Felciano was a champion marksman in Asia and TV personality, National Artist Bobby MaƱosa was then a young architect, Lenny Hontiveros was an advertising and public relations executive who later became Chairman of J. Walter Thompson in the Philippines, Bert del Rosario was an inventor and entrepreneur, founding Treble pianos and inventing the sing-along system better known today as karaoke. Dading Morato was in the lumber business and Freddy Kaufman was an advertising executive. They started to get frequent invitations to small parties and slowly built a loyal following with their unique brand of Dixie/Swing music.
The 1960s saw them appearing in numerous fundraising activities and jamming with famous personalities in music and government. They have gone on tour around the country and also in Europe, the United States and Hong Kong. They have since played with Duke Ellington, Gary Burton, Lionel Hampton, Charlie Byrd, and have performed for the King of Thailand, the King of Cambodia, First Lady Ming Ramos, and US President Bill Clinton.
The current members of the band are also mostly amateur musicians led now by Francis Manglapus son of the late senator. Hector Sanvitores is president of Seacom Industires, Butch Silverio is president of Fordham Food Factory, Jings de Guzman is founder of Audiofile Electronics, Martin Macalintal works in the French Embassy, Mike Tan is owner of a printing company, Ricky Quiogue works at Standard Charter Bank and Vince Tan is an executive vice president for Ayala Land.
