Concert Review: Stone Temple Pilots rocks Manila!
Fans of the Stone Temple Pilots and of 90s heavy rock fans altogether converged at the Araneta Coliseum last March 9, 2011 for an intoxicatingly smashing good time. Stone Temple Pilots, the iconic 90s rock band known for their widely popular hits “Plush” and “Interstate Love Song” did not disappoint the rock-hungry Pinoy audience present at the Big Dome, with front man Scott Weiland, Dean DeLeo, Robert De Leo and Eric Kretz delivering a riveting concoction of old favorites and fresh hits from their latest self-entitled album “Stone Temple Piots”.
The show was kicked off at 8:30 pm with Pinoy band SinoSikat serving as the front act. Vocalist Kat Agarrado and her band performed more than 3 songs including their hits: “Mr Musikero(Pwede Ba?)” and “So Blue . Kat expressed her gratitude for being included in the Stone Temple Pilots’ first ever Manila concert and as a parting shot, encouraged everyone to continue supporting OPM bands and thir music.
After SinoSikat’s performance the fans went wild when the tarpaulin at the back of the stage hit the floor serving as an unintentional clue for fans to turn the front of the stage into a crazy mosh pit chanting “STP! STP STP “ till the band finally walked out. The band performed 16 of their hit songs including “Plush” “Crackerman” “Wicked Garden” “Vasoline” “Interstate Love Song” “Sex Type Thing” throwing in their own rendition of a song from the 80s rock band Led Zepplin. A staple in nearly every STP concert, Scott whipped out his megaphone for tunes “Sex Type Thing” and “Big Empty”
As the concert drew to a close the band gave their final bows, throwing guitar pics and drum sticks to the crowd. An estimated 8,000 fans were present at the Araneta, which became a night full of 90s rock memories. Here’s hoping it wont be the least. Thanks to Ovation Productions for bringing Stone Temple Pilots and special thanks to Stoked Entertainment. Till the next concert you guys Manila Concert Scene over and out!
