(PRESS RELEASE) SIMPLE PLAN LIVE IN MANILA: Get Your Heart On! Tour

Get ready to have your simple world turned upside down as the band that gave you the hit song "Welcome to My Life", "Untitled" and "Perfect" once again rocks Manila. DAYLY Entertainment and Midas Promotions proudly brings: Simple Plan Live in Manila for the Get Your Heart On! Tour.

This Canadian pop punk band from Montréal, Quebec entered the pop punk rock scene in 1999. High school friends Charles-Andre "Chuck" Comeau, Jean-Francois "Jeff" Stinco and Sebastian Lefebvre got together to form Simple Plan. Comeau met former Reset bandmate Pierre Bouvier at a Sugar Ray concert, and soon after Bouvier left Reset to join Simple Plan. David Desroriers joined the band and replaced Bouvier on bass, allowing Bouvier to concentrate on the singing.

They released their first studio album, No Pads, No Helmets...Just Balls in 2002, with twelve tracks including the hit "Perfect", creating a mark on the pop punk rock scene. This was followed by Still Not Getting Any in 2004 with singles "Welcome to My  Life", "Shut Up!, "Untitled", "Crazy" and "Perfect World". According to the band, on this album, they wanted to explore a more "versatile" sound, still good music but not limited to the punk rock genre.

After touring for more than a year and performing for their massive music fan base, Simple Plan took some time off in 2006 to work on their 3rd album, working with producer Dave Fortman. On October 29, 2006 they released their self titled album Simple Plan with "When I'm Gone" as the carrier single peaking at number 26 on the UK charts, giving them their highest charting single in the UK. Simple Plan's music has now achieved global status and has earned them numerous nominations and several wins at different music awards.

Not just your average rock stars, Simple Plan has also shown their philanthropic side by donating to many non profit and advocacy groups like MTV Asia Aid Benefit, MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving), RADD (Recording Artists and Athletes against Drunk Driving) and Make-A Wish Foundation. Afterwards they created the Simple Plan Foundation, a foundation that focuses on teen problems.

Simple Plan also made a mark in Hollywood by having several of their songs featured in the movies Scooby Doo and Scooby Doo 2. They also appeared in the 2004 film New York Minute. The band garnered considerable worldwide recognition and their name has become a staple to many teenagers and young adults' music playlists.

To promote their 4th album Get Your Heart On!, which features collaboration with several artists like Weezer's Rivers Cuomo, Natasha Bedingfield, K'naan and All Time Low's Alex Gaskarth, Simple Plan embarks on their Get Your Heart On tour. “Jet Lag” feat. Natasha Bedingfield for the English version and Marie-Mai for the French version is the album's first single and has gained significant airplay worldwide.

The band has visited Manila first in March 2005, performing together with Avril Lavigne. Leaving their local fans wanting for more, they came back in August 2008 with New Found Glory and Jamie Scott. Now, Simple Plan will once again bring some punk rock induced energy into Manila on January 12, 2012 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Jump, scream and sing your lungs out to the latest tunes brought to you by Simple Plan!

Tickets are available at Ticketnet outlets. Manila on an all-time high - All Time Low Live in Manila 2011 Review

Title: Manila on an all-time high - All Time Low Live in Manila 2011 Review
Written by: Jamie Ortega
Photo by Magic Liwanag and Ed Clinton Go

In the current musical landscape where nearly every artist treats auto-tune like it’s their next best friend, you’ve got to give it up to a band who has gained recognition through their extensive concert tours rather than heavy radio play. Add to the fact that we’re talking about a genre as young as pop punk, put all these things together, and you’ve got the phenomenal success that is All Time Low.

Consisting of vocalist and rhythm guitarist Alex Gaskarth, lead guitarist Jack Barakat, bassist and back vocalist Zachary Merrick, and drummer Rian Dawson, All Time Low was formed in 2003 when all its’ members were still in high school. The group entered the music scene by performing songs from musical groups they idolize like Blink 182, before finally striking up an album deal in 2005 entitled The Party Scene under Emerald Moon Records. But like a lot of pop-punk bands of their generation, it took them quite a while, three studio albums to be exact plus countless touring around the United States, before making a mark in 2009 with their third compilation Nothing Personal.Sans any radio play, Nothing Personal debuted at number 4 on the Billboard chart, selling 63,000 copies and making it the group’s highest charting album to date-proving that dreams do come true and that true talent, no matter how long it takes never goes unnoticed.

Owners of rock-related blogs and websites will vehemently agree that based on their “who do you want to see live in Manila” polls punk rock has a huge following in the country. And at the forefront of their followers’ wish list is All Time Low. So much so that at the press conference for their Manila show last September 22, 2011 a young boy  teared up upon seeing their idols in the flesh. Similar sights occurred at the band’s meet and greet, shared the concert’s producers Dayly Entertainment and Ovation Productions. “When the word die-hard comes to mind I think of All Time Low fans,” commented a concert organizer on his Facebook account.

During the show staged last September 22 at the Big Dome scores of bras and panties (some women even brought extra, shared an observer,) made their way to the stage as the group sang songs from their latest and fourth studio album Dirty Work.  Whether you’re curious about their not-so-usual story or a true-blue punkista by heart.

What would you say has been your all time high moment here in Manila?

Rian: We went to a mall here in Manila and we did a signing, we’ve done that before but when we walked into that mall it was four stories high and each railing was full of fans. There were people who came to our signing and said that they’ve listened to our music for five or six years it was amazing.

Alex: We expected it to be amazing based on the fans online and what we read online but until you actually see it firsthand you really have no idea how amazing it’s going to be and how awesome it felt. It was the mind-blowing to see that amount of people and feel their passion.

Your latest album Dirty Work sounds different from your previous albums So Wrong Its Right and Nothing Personal, was that a direction the band went to on purpose?

Alex: That’s really a great question, our influence expanded as we got older and our tastes changed. We brought in influence from other bands we wouldn’t have considered putting out there before. There was a big 90svibeon this record and it went back to Sublime and Third Eye Blind that we really wanted to draw upon a little bit.

Rian: As we grew older we became less ashamed to like anything mainstream unlike before it was like more of just Blink 182 or Third Eye Blind, now we can recognize a song whether it is Lady Gaga or Justin Bieber we are not really ashamed to listen to anything which broadens our musical spectrum.

You are often compared other pop-punk bands like The Maine and We The Kings, what do you think sets you apart?

Rian: First of all those are bands that we may not look up to but we definitely listen to, I think one thing that sets us apart is we really put tons of energy and we have a really great time onstage. What I always say is even if you are not an All Time Low fan you can still have a good time at our concerts.

What did you guys expect when you first started out?

Jack:  When we started out our vision didn’t leave our hometown then it branched out to the US, we never expected it to grow the way it did or to get to this level. As we were doing it more and more people continue to stand behind us and we will keep on doing it as long as people care.

Rian: Peopleask us what is your next milestone, you go back to five or six years and all we wanted to is sell out a room in Baltimore, now we’ve blown out everything that we wanted to do so now we’re just enjoying whatever we are getting.

Curious question, why do you guys like to take off your shirts onstage?
Jack: Well, it’s just the natural thing to do God gave us very beautiful, naked bodies and we would like to show the world. Hahah!

Rian: It’s just become a bad habit at this point, haha!

Taking a look at your videos they all have a sense of fun, or are parodies of other videos, do you think that you will compromise the spirit of your band or change aspects of yourself to stay popular?

Alex: Our next single is called Time Bomb and we couldn’t really make a joke about that song, it’s more of a serious song.I think the videos aremore in relation to the song, but In relation to changing who we are in exchange for popularity, no.We do what we do because it is who we are and we have a real good time with it.

Rian: Half of the reason that we exist at the level that we do is because of our personalities, a quarter of our live show is stand- up comedy, thank you Alex and Jack.  We are here in part of that so why we would not let our personalities show onstage?

To end, what is the sweetest thing a fan has done for you?

Jack: Its hard to narrow it down to just one thing but for me its cool when people get tattoos of our music.
Alex: Don’t just do it because we said it, you have to really want it.
Rian: It’s definitely a huge commitment.

The Black Eyed Peas turn Manila into one big concert party

Title: The Black Eyed Peas turn Manila into one big concert party

There’s something that’s got to be said about a concert that you can dance to. No, not just sway or clap to, a show that you can bump, grind and groove your way from the start to the end. It makes you feel like youre part of the crowd, that if you weren’t there you could never understand how awesome it felt.  The Black Eyed Peas one night only concert at SM Mall Of Asia Concert Grounds on October 25 felt exactly like that. An average of 50,000 people, braving the enormous traffic and sweltering heat, trooped to the grounds to watch the Where Is The Love? This Is The Love show.

Amidst rumors that the Grammy Award winning group will be going on a hiatus, Will I Am, Taboo, Fergie and Apl De Ap gave a performance that will undoubtedly be remembered forever. The group did not disappoint as they performed a slew of their high-energy nonstop party hits, like “Meet Me Halfway,” and “Don’t Stop The Party,”, followed by longer performances of “Boom Boom Pow” and “The Time Of My Life(Dirty Bit)”. By the time “Rock Your Body” came on, everyone in the audience was simply teeming with energy and hungry for more.

Aside from their infectious dance hits, the Black Eyed Peas are also known for producing technologically-superb, electrifying shows that feature “fashionology” (a combination of fashion and technology). The group brought all these awe-inducing, spectacle-worthy details to this show as well, like Fergie’s pink galaxy dress embedded with LED lights and Will and Apl’s suits peppered with small rectangular mirrors reflecting the light that shone on them as they perform. To add to that, back-up dancers in robot costumes grooved with the four members, accompanied by laser and strobe lights.

The Black Eyed Peas are monumentally popular as a group, although it cannot be denied that they have their own individual following as well.  Each member gave terrific solo performances, starting off with the sensual and playful Fergie as she sung “Big Girls Don’t Cry.” Apl surely made every Pinoy in the audience proud while performing Mare, The Apl, Song and Bebot. Taboo, sporting a more clean-shaven, edgy look made more than a few girls squeal as he performed a couple of rap songs. However, it was Will I Am’s live DJ set that stole the solo segments .Will cleverly mixed songs like Usher’s OMG, and Journey’s Don’t Stop Believing while wearing an astronaut costume elevated several feet into the air. Moments only experienced in the Black Eyed Peas world.

Indeed, there is nothing quite like the energy that the Black Eyed Peas brings to the floor. The last song “I Gotta Feeling” couldn’t have been better suited for the finale. By the end of the concert there was a feeling all right, a pervading, pumped up high of happiness, gratitude and a little bit of sadness. Sad because it’s over but happy because it happened.  Here’s hoping this is not the last we get to see of this group that, no matter how sad we are feeling, can always manage to make us  feel like we are on top of the world.

Concert Review: Good Vibes Overflow at Jason Mraz’s concert

Title:  Good Vibes Overflow at Jason Mraz’s concert
Written by: Jamie Ortega
Photos by: Ferdie Arquero, Kris Rocha and Ed Clinton Go

“Like being at Woodstock,” was how several members of the audience described Jason Mraz’s concert at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum last October 30. Indeed, the Big Dome was filled to the rafters with good vibes and a genuine appreciation for the music that was to come as the American singer-songwriter serenaded the audience with his unique and unforgettable acoustic tunes. Accompanied by percussionist  Noel “Toca” Rivera, Jason kicked off the show with the tune “She’s The bomb.” Sporting a yellow bandana and statement shirt with the words PEACE emblazoned in front (and looking very much like a hippie), the singer got everyone into the chilled back groove by requesting the audience to clap their hands and give the people next to them a high-five.

He then launched into his second song for the night, “Dynamo Of Volition.” This was followed by a string of songs from his three studio albums such as 2002’s “Waiting for My Rocket to Come,” 2005’s “Mr. A-Z,” and 2008’s “We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things.” Although he admitted that he was used to performing at intimate venues, it sure looked like Mraz got everyone’s attention judging from the heart-shaped figures fans were making with their hands. Several people in the audience were holding up banners with one particular sign reading “We love the Jesus look.” Jason pointed that out in between songs and gamely chuckled onstage.

One of the most applauded numbers was a mash-up medley of his original tune “If It Kills Me” which he interspersed with the Beatle’s “Across The Universe” Astrud Gilberto’s “Fly Me To The Moon,” and Oasis’ “Wonderwall” ending with another original song “The Remedy.” As expected, “You And I” one of his biggest hits which stayed for 76 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart, got everyone on their feet applauding and singing along. Another remarkable number was “Lucky”. Originally a duet with acoustic songstress Colbie Cailat, Jason sung both male and female parts to everyone’s wondrous amazement. Right smack in the middle of the audience was a couple slow-dancing to the music, oblivious to the noise around, proof of the overflowing good vibes imminent from every corner of the venue.

Jason capped the night with the songs “Details In The Fabric” and “Life Is Wonderful” before leaving the stage. After the audience requested for an encore, Jason and Toca  returned singing “Butterfly” and “The Freedom Songs.”

Most artists are active in their respective charities, but when a singer mentions it in the middle of his concert you know they mean business. The acoustic singer, who made an appearance at the MTV EXIT live concert the night before, spoke out against human trafficking. “Real men don’t buy girls,’ boldly shared the songwriter. Before leaving the stage Mr.Az (as he is more popularly known to his fans) left a parting message “Keep that love going, applaud everyone in your life.” Judging from the smiles on people’s faces, we’re pretty sure that request wont be hard to follow.

Jason Mraz: Special Acoustic Evening with Toca Rivera was brought to us by Dayly Entertainment, LAMC Productions and Rockstar Touring.

80289: 80s To The Max’ at Music Museum

GEAR up your shoulder pads, chain belts, and high-waist jeans and re-live the unforgettable era of the 80s in Artsy Productions & Promotions’ maiden presentation “80289: 80s Music To The Max” which happens at the Music Museum on Nov. 11 (Friday), 18 (Friday), & 19 (Saturday).
“80289: 80s Music To The Max” is a grand musical tribute to the 80s which features six of the most iconic OPM artists of the decade namely: Lou Bonnevie, Gino Padilla, Jamie Rivera, Chad Borja, Ella May Saison, and Juan Miguel Salvador.

Lou Bonnevie launched her musical career in 1984 via the concert “Next In Line.” Music lovers remember Lou for rock ballads with such passion that her voice doesn’t only weep, it bleeds! Lou is one of the few female performers who can come up with the same intensity in both vocal prowess and performance. Lou recently released a critically acclaimed album entitled “Only Human” under Viva Records and produced by her company,Dimitri Productions. She is also the woman behind the success of the long running environmental concert tribute “ Earthday Jam”. Lou is currently swinging from “live” performing to producing music festivals, concerts, albums, and operas. Working behind the scenes provides the correct pace in her career, giving her room for more creation and inspiration. With her wit, charm, and talent, Lou definitely belongs to a rare breed of artists who live the art and not just cry it out.

Gino Padilla’s big break was in a softdrink commercial that was shot in Hollywood, California where he had a duet with the legendary Tina Turner in Pepsi’s “In The Mood For Movin’.” He then went on to record a toothpaste jingle for Close-up which earned him 2 major Awit Awards: Best in Ballad Recording and Song of the Year. Gino’s greatest hits include “Closer You and I,” “Gusto Kita,” “I Believe In You,” and “Let The Love Begin” which became certified Gold and Platinum.

Jamie Rivera gained worldwide recognition when she played the role of Kim in Cameron Mackintosh’s award-winning musicale “Miss Saigon.” Jamie’s actual training began when she joined the Metropolitan Theater Chorus in 1985. She recorded her first full-length studio album under Octo Arts International entitled “Hey, It’s Me” in 1986 and she did five full-length albums for the same label since then. Her hits include “Mahal Naman Kita,” “I’ve Fallen For You,” and “Awit Para Sa Iyo” among many others. Today, Jamie is the country’s undisputed Inspirational Diva, touching the hearts of millions of Filipinos with such songs as “Tanging Yaman” and “Jubilee Song.”

Chad Borja started his career in the 80s as one of the most prominent lead vocalists of several bands such as The New Minstrels, Zee, and Counterpoint Band. His first album “All About Love” produced the hit single “Ikaw Lang” which spawned a blockbuster movie starring Vilma Santos, Ronnie Rickettes, and Cesar Montano. His self-titled follow up album was produced by Richard Merk and was a massive commercial success! After a bout with cancer in 1998, Chad Borja is singing again! After throat operation and radiation therapy, the balladeer was declared cancer-free and returned to the stage with a series of sold-out performances!

Ella May Saison sings with a powerful voice that captivates her audience. A voice so effective, you will wan tto hear it again and again. Signing since the age of 7, Ella May combines various vocal styles including jazz, gospel, and blues. She started her recording career at 19. Her greatest hits include “Till My Heartache Ends” and “If The Feeling Is Gone” among many others. Her soulful voice earned her the title of “Manila’s Queen of Soul” following her best selling albums “Language of Soul” and “Full of Love, Full of Soul.”
It was in 1983, Juan Miguel became not just a member/vocalist, but the bands’ Musical Director and keyboardist as well of the band called “Rage”. The Rage Band soon became a spear-header and one of the most popular rock acts of the 80’s. The Rage took “live” performing to a different level. In 5 years, they had performed in every major coliseum and theater all over the Philippines; guested in practically every popular TV show; Simply put, Rage is now considered an 80’s Icon.

Toto Gentica , whose musical career traces back to the 80’s with significant collaborations with Gary Valenciano , Kuh ledesma , Zsa Zsa Padilla and Lou Bonnevie will be the show’s music & artistic director.  This 3-hour musical extravaganza will also feature Franco Laurel, a veteran stage actor/singer as the resident  VJ-Host who will weave the stories behind the prominence of the 80’s era ,the sights and the sounds of the 80s – from its greatest hits both locally and internationally, a montage of its most memorable movies, the most romantic and thrilling duets, the famed 80s Punk and New Wave genres, the 80s New Romantic Set, the greatest girl groups, as well as songs of the 80s icons among many others.. Also featured will be the lovely singers dubbed “Filipinas” as backup vocalists with a 7 pc band and a 10 pc dancers ensemble. This ultimate 80s musical event culminates with a grand party as powered by the most danceable tunes of the decade! The concert will also have Ms. Kuh Ledesma as guest artist on Nov. 11,2011 .
