90S MUSIC COMES ALIVE WITH SAMSUNG GALAXY S WIFI 5.0

What do you remember most about the 90s? Gadgets like the Discman on which you listened to music, the Tamagotchi which served as your pet, or those big cellular phones? Was it the movies, like when you watched “Titanic” three times (or more), got “Clueless” with Alicia Silverstone, or melted over the line “You had me at ‘hello’,” from “Jerry Maguire”? Or was it the TV shows, like when you got hooked on “Friends”, “Beverly Hills 90210,” or “Melrose Place”? Or was it the music? Of course, there has to be music.

That is why MCA Music, in cooperation with Samsung’s ultimate MP3 evolution, the Samsung Galaxy S WiFi 5.0, gives tribute to the music that defined a generation via the album “90s Music Comes Alive,” featuring MCA artists’ take on hits from the 90s.  It is bannered by “Unbelievable,” an EMF original given new life by one of the country’s top bands, Chicosci.

The album is packed top-to-bottom with a spectacular lineup of signature 90s tracks re-imagined by today’s artists. Take, for example, the Madonna original “This Used To Be My Playground” reinterpreted by Urbandub, or Radiohead’s “Fake Plastic Trees” reengineered by Franco. There’s also Paula Cole’s “I Don’t Wanna Wait” by December Avenue, The Cranberries’ “Linger” by Miguel Escueta, Keith Sweat’s “Twisted” by Typecast, Radiohead’s “Creep” by Tanya Markova, Indigo Girls’ “Power of Two” by Nyoy Volante, Eric Clapton’s “Change The World” by Krissy & Ericka, Lisa Loeb’s “Stay” by Toto Sorioso, Blind Melon’s “No Rain” by Sabrina, Sugar Ray’s “Someday” by The Lamars, Natalie Imbruglia’s “Torn” by Solenn Heussaff, and Lou Bega’s sassy “Mambo No. 5” by Richard Poon.

Reminisce over the good times, or simply savor a fresh take on music from before the new millennium with “90s Music Comes Alive.”

And to make it come even more alive, listen to it digitally on the Samsung Galaxy S WiFi 5.0. With proprietary SoundAlive 3D surround sound technology, you get a fully-immersive on-the-go music experience in an astonishingly compact device. While its expansive 5-inch touchscreen and powerful 1GHz processor deftly let you plow through your other favorite forms of entertainment (from the 90s, or otherwise) like full HD movies and thousands of games from the Android market.

“90s Music Comes Alive” is now out in CDs at leading record stores under MCA Music, and is presented by Samsung Galaxy S WiFi 5.0. To download the music of “90s Music Comes Alive” to your mobile phones, just text NINETIES to 3456. Catch these artists as “90s Music Comes Alive” will be having a grand launch this January 13 (Friday), 7pm at Eastwood Central Plaza and January 14 (Saturday), 7pm at Venice Piazza at McKinley Hill.

UNCLE SAM’S FLYING CIRCUS: THE PERFECT HOLIDAY SHOW FOR KIDS

This coming holiday season, experience the thrill and excitement of the great American entertainment tradition when Uncle Sam’s Flying Circus comes to Manila for a series of shows at the SMX Convention Center (Halls 1 and 2) from December 25 to January 1, 2012.

After headlining countless performances across the U.S. and Southeast Asia, Uncle Sam’s Flying Circus will give Filipino audiences a smorgasbord of holiday cheer as it brings its brand of heart-warming and death-defying spectacles that will surely be a hit among kids and kids-at-heart.

One of the show's most breathtaking highlights is the Double Russian Swing act, which involves two giant steel swings that allow performers to rock back and forth to create momentum to launch 25-feet in the air. The aerial performers simultaneously whizz past each other while spinning and contorting their bodies. It’s a must-see act requiring extreme precision, timing and courage.

Also included in the show's lineup of performers are highly-skilled acrobats who display amazing feats of strength and dexterity. Whether going through intricate ‘acro-balancing’ contortions that seemingly defy gravity, or literally risking life and limb as they breeze through the air with clockwork precision, these daredevils will definitely draw shrieks and gasps of disbelief from a spellbound audience.

Of course, no circus would be complete without the traditional clowns. Wearing their eternal smiles and flamboyant outfits, these ambassadors of good cheer never fail to elicit laughs with their rib-tickling antics, with a good dose of juggling, balancing and acrobatic displays thrown in for good measure.

Also known as human pretzels, contortionists never fail to amaze audiences with their amazing feats of flexibility and dexterity. With their uncanny ability to twist and turn their limbs in limitless positions, they oftentimes give the impression that their supple and resilient bodies are made of rubber.

Press Release: MAMMA MIA! The Broadway & West End Smash Hit Musical Opens January

MAMMA MIA!
The Broadway & West End Smash Hit Musical Opens January

Finally, Manila is ready to watch MAMMA MIA! The international tour of the highly-anticipated musical, supported by the classic songs of ABBA, will be staged at the CCP Main Theater starting 24 January 2012 now been extended til 12 February, for a limited season only!

MAMMA MIA! creative producer, Judy Craymer, first met Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson, the song-writing geniuses behind ABBA. She was specially inspired by the song ‘The Winner Takes It All,’ its lyrics telling a roller-coaster story of love and loss, which became the basis in creating what would become MAMMA MIA!

Craymer did not change the lyrics because if audiences really listened to ABBA’s songs, they would notice how they fell into two different generations – the innocent, playful songs like ‘Honey, Honey’ and ‘Dancing Queen’, and the more reflective, emotional songs such as ‘The Winner Takes It All’ and ‘Knowing Me, Knowing You’. From the lyrical prowess of ABBA, the idea of a cross-generational love-story was conceived.

The story of MAMMA MIA! unfolds on a Greek island paradise. On the eve of Sophie Sheridan’s  wedding, she goes on a quest to discover the identity of her father and brings three men from her mother's past back to the island they last visited 20 years ago. The story-telling magic of ABBA’s timeless songs propels an enchanting tale of love, laughter, and friendship.

Concert Review: Pitbull Turns Araneta Coliseum into One Raging Dance floor

Pitbull Turns Araneta Coliseum into One Raging Dance floor
Written by Jamie Ortega
Photos by Kevin Pableo

Araneta Coliseum turned into one fun, crazy, and wild party at the Pitbull Live In Manila Concert last November 30, 2011. It capped off a mid-week holiday, and clearly, everyone was in a party mood as concertgoers grooved, gyrated and bopped to the American rapper and hitmaker’s tunes.

The electrifying night was kicked off with a live DJ set by Cebuano DJ Marlon Arellano who put everyone in a party mood by playing hits like Rihanna’s We Found Love and The Killer’s Mr Brightside. A large area in front of the stage was transferred into a dance floor complete with laser lights where VIP ticketholders partied the night away, urging some concert goers to comment that the atmosphere felt like a nightclub, adding to the overall party vibe. It took more than an hour for the concert to start, but it was clearly worth the wait as Mr. Worldwide, Mr. 305, or as he is more popularly known, Pitbull took bombastically took the stage clad in a black suit and signature aviator shades.

Even though he is known for his collaborations with big-name artists like Ne-Yo and Jennifer Lopez, the master rapper proved that he can pull off a fantastic one-man show, owning the stage and performing hit after hit, showcasing spectacular Latin dance moves backed by an energetic band, all to the delight of the audience. To feel the party atmosphere even more, several concertgoers wore bunny ears and waved their glow sticks in dancing unison.

Proving that, truly, language knows no barriers, the prolific rapper and entertainer rendered a couple of his original tunes as well, namely Bon, Bon, Calle Ocho and Krazy. Although they were rife with Latin lyrics and most of the people in the audience couldn’t understand the language, concertgoers danced or bopped their heads to the infectious tune, fully enveloping another predominant message that night- no matter what is happening in your life right now, we are all going to have an infectiously good time!

Before closing the show, Pitbull shared his message to cap off the undeniably fun concert. The rapper expressed his hope that through what everyone witnessed he was able to show the people present how he was able to turn his life “from a negative to a positive,” and wished that everyone would all be inspired to do the same. As the finale song,” Give Me Everything” Pitbull’s hit collaboration with Ne-Yo, filled the air, judging from the smiles and laughter on the concertgoers faces, it seems like everyone got that message loud and clear.

Celebrities in the audience: Liz Uy, Enzo Pineda with his date Louise Delos Reyes, Katkat De Castro, Rico Robles, Sam Pinto, David Chua and Regine Angeles.

The show started at around 8 in the evening. Tutti Caringal and his band, 6cyclemind, performed as Train’s front-act. They played some of their hits including “Kung Wala Na Nga” and “Sandalan” – the last song for their act performed with a little snippet from Francis Magalona’s “Kaleidoscope World”. Press Release: The Greatest Hits of Blue, 98 Degrees and A1 together at the Big Dome

The day shall be marked as the 26th year anniversary of EDSA Revolution 1. Some people will surely relive the moments of that evening when it was announced 'it was all over.'

Interestingly, local fans of top-selling boy-groups Blue, 98 Degrees and a1 have more reasons to reminisce and celebrate. Count out the political placard displays or screaming streamers. Count in sure-fire ear-friendly music, live celebrity glitter as a back-to-back-to-back concert of international heartthrobs happens inside the historic Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City come the evening of February 25, 2012.

Topnotch concert promoter Wilbros Live has just announced the staging of a star-studded concert entitled, "The Greatest Hits Tour: Blue, Jeff Timmons of 98 Degrees and a1 - Live in Manila 2012." The spectacle is taking place at the Big Dome, 8 pm, on the memorable day.

Witness members of these marquee boy-bands perform and serenade you in their flesh.  The English pop vocal group Blue is set to deliver their hits, such as “All Rise”, “Too Close”, “If You Come Back”, “Fly By”, “One Love”, “Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word”, “Guilty”, and “Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m Yours)." The group, comprised of Simon Webbe, Lee Ryan, Duncan James and Antony Acosta, will surely paint the town red.

British-Norwegian group a1 is expected to churn out their familiar tunes. Name it, “Like A Rose”, “Take On Me”, “Ready or Not / Everytime”, “Same Old Brand New You”, “Caught in the Middle” and “Make It Good”. This pop ensemble started making a big splash when their first single, “Be the First to Believe,” entered the UK charts at #6 in early 1999. They had a huge amount of success worldwide with two #1s and eighty top 10 hits. No wonder music fans have believed! Watch out for their newest Christmas track After All It’s Christmas which will hit the airwaves very soon.

For fans of 98 Degrees, you won't see the group performing. Yet, that shouldn't matter much as its main vocalist Jeff Timmons is showing up. The group split up years back but its unforgettable R&B, soul, urban and contemporary pop sound lives on through its founding member. He is sure to sing many of their hits like “Invisible Man”, “Because of You”, “The Hardest Thing”, “I Do (Cherish You)” and “My Everything”.

Mark the date, February 25, 2012, and celebrate an evening worth-watching. For ticket inquiries, contact TicketNet Box Office at 911-5555 or Wilbros Live at 374-2222.
