Internet sensation turned worldwide breakthrough act, The Piano Guys, were recently in town thanks to RandomMinds. And easily, the boys enamored those who saw them live during their September 7 show. The boys put together innovative arrangements for well-known pop songs from David Guetta, One Direction, Michael Jackson, Adele to classical masterpieces from Mozart.

L-R: Paul Anderson, Jon Schmidt, Steven Sharp Nelson
& Al van der Beek, collectively known as The Piano Guys.
Ironically, The Piano Guys, who got their name from a piano store in St. George, Utah, are a quartet featuring only two musicians - only one being a pianist. Store owner Paul Anderson devised a Facebook promotional page and a YouTube channel featuring well-established, self-described “New Age Classical” pianist Jon Schmidt, who teamed up musically with Steven Sharp Nelson, an innovative cellist. Together, Schmidt and Nelson form the musical core of The Piano Guys, with Anderson - who has since closed the store. Al van der Beek, the fourth “Guy,” heads up the group’s studio operations, and also assists in co-writing and arranging, as well as percussion and vocal texturing. They create their music videos all together.

In a special press session with them, The Piano Guys shared they began making music videos for fun. The spectacular videos, which have so far netted over 130 million YouTube views (and 500,000 new views a day), are essentially divined carefully crafted using stunning production. But beyond what you can see, it’s really the music that keeps them magical. Thus earning them accolades in the industry. Their hit self-titled debut album, released early this year on Sony Masterworks, has been #1 on the Billboard New Age Chart for the last 23 weeks and remains on Billboard’s Top 200 Chart. Their unique style has garnered rave reviews and performances on The Today Show, Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Katie, CBS This Morning, Fox & Friends among others, and of course, in their Philippine show.
