A Walk Down Memory Lane With Martin Nievera

“A night, 30 years worth, of musical journey” is what Martin Nievera had us experience last Sept 13 at the Araneta Coliseum. Armed with the ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra, the musical direction of Louie Ocampo, and a crowd ready to be swooned by the Concert King.

Opening the show were the X Factor Philippines contestants mentored by Martin Nievera singing a medley of pop songs for the audience to warm up to. And of course, Martin wasted no time starting the show with a bang. Literally, as a couple of pyro lit up the stage. The whole night was a like walking through Martin Nievera’s whole career as he shared with his us how his career had started and lasted all these years by calling out the people in the crowd he is thankful for in his fruitful existence in the showbiz.

All of Martin’s hit songs were performed beautifully with the ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra. I had to remind myself a couple of times throughout the show the orchestra accompaniment was real and live. It was just that good. And Martin just proved all over again to the entire Araneta crowd how much he lived up to the title of being the Concert King as he performed I believe more or less 30 songs in the 3 hour event with no signs of being tired.

We definitely were in for a treat as one by one, his surprise guests came out on stage joining Martin in performing. His son, Robin Nievera, performed his own composition and played a duet with his dad.

Aiza Seguerra sang the ever-heart-tingling “I’ll be There” with Martin.

Also with Bamboo coming out of nowhere in the middle of Martin’s performance of White Lions’ “You’re All I Need” sang the rest of the song with him.

And of course, the country’s sweetheart, Anne Curtis stepped onstage as she performed David Guetta’s “Without You” which is a single she had recorded with the Concert King.

Another great surprise for the crowd was when Regine Velasquez had gotten on stage and sang lovely duets with Martin.

Lastly, you can’t just have Gary Valenciano in the crowd of Martin Nievera’s concert and not have him go up there on stage. With a little help from his long time friend, Gary V had a breathtaking spontaneous performance of “Kahit Isang Saglit” with the Concert King. The show had continued on with Martin singing a Broadway medley and all his classics, “Ikaw”, “Be My Lady”, “Say That You Love Me”, “You Are My Song” among others.

As Gary V shared all our sentiments, he said that it was great to see and hear Martin sing all of his timeless love songs in full with the magic of the orchestra.

It was indeed a night to remember and especially for Martin Nievera himself in celebrating his 30 years of being the incredible artist that he is.

Like he said, “30 years in the industry and I feel like I’ve just begun…”
