LONG LIVE THE KILLERS!

“Whatever happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. But that’s bull shit cause The Killers are in Manila!” declared vocalist Brandon Flowers in all his manly conviction. Dressed in a star-spangled button down shirt and leather jacket, the handsome singer of the equally handsome band may have taken some time to visit our country, but the wait was worth it.

After a well-received set by local heroes, Sandwich, the Nevada natives took on the stage and ignited their very explosive show immediately with “Mr.Brightside”. Instantly, The Killers brought the massively attended event to life.  And this same energy was sustained throughout the 120 minute thrill ride, along the way making pit stops for their most memorable hits. Covering tracks from their debut album, “Hot Fuss” like “Smile Like You Mean It”, “Jenny Was A Friend of Mine” and “Somebody Told Me” to tracks off their sophomore effort, “Sam’s Town” such as “Bling (Confession of a King)”, “For Reasons Unknown” as well as cuts off “Day & Age” and “Battle Born”.  On top of that, a little Joy Division cover was included and a nod to UK band, Tommy James and the Shondells too. Ultimately serving up a 19-song audio fest.

Beyond the very satisfying and robust set list, the true stars of the show was really the band – as together, The Killers worked a tight unit delivering a cohesive and strong dynamism. Brandon’s golden pipes and undeniable charisma served him well. While his long time cohorts - guitarist Dave Keuning and drummer Ronnie Vannucci, Jr. beautifully operated on point.  Making every part of the performance run like a well-oiled machine - whether it was their disco punk days, or their Mexican rock phase, or their new found Americana stadium rock sounds, one thing was clear…The Killers easily slayed their show at the Araneta.

And it was a killer.
