There was a different kind of nostalgia last September 28 at the SM City North EDSA Skydome. An array of both new and old fans gathered at the venue for Shane Filan’s fan meet party and show. Of course, fans couldn’t help but reminisce those days when Westlife songs carried a lot of weight and are as unforgettable as the experiences that went along with those songs. Yes, things have definitely changed, but the love for old and new music will always be something that is constant.

This is Shane’s first promo tour as a solo artist. His tour kicked off in India and the Philippines is his second stop. This is his fifth visit to our shores.

One hundred lucky fans were able to have exclusive access to Shane’s fan meet party before his show.

The show then started at 6, when acoustic singer Sabrina graced the stage and warmed up the audience with her original songs, as well as her own rendition of hit songs.

Shane remembers the Filipino fans as warm and absolutely welcoming. When he stepped out to greet the crowd with “Everytime,” the fans did not disappoint. This song is from his “Everything to Me EP,” and it just starts off his set in a fun and vibrant mood. The fans’ screams would probably seem nostalgic, but the pop beats are absolutely fresh.

He introduced his song, “Once,” as his favorite from his EP. It was obvious that he had fun letting the crowd sing with him. After the song, he said that it felt incredible to see faces smiling and singing his songs. The third song he performed was “What About Now,” which Westlife released in 2009. His next single, “About You,” was next. Shane was quite surprised that the crowd knew the words to the song because this was released only recently. Fans will also be able to see the music video this week according to Shane. He finished the show with “Everything to Me,” the song that he debuted with.

In between his songs, he confessed that he does not really know how people are going to react to his music. Based on the response he got from the crowd, I can say that the reaction from his fans was nothing short of amazing.

To cap off the event, the fans were able to have their CDs autographed during the signing session.

It was definitely a day worth remembering for Shane’s fans. It was intimate. This fan is pretty sure that everyone found more reasons to love Shane and his music.

“SHANE FILAN Live! In Manila” is presented by MCA Music (Universal Music Philippines), SMART Music, Skydome, The Podium and Astroplus/Astrovision.
