KILLSWITCH ENGAGE 101
Written by CARLA ADLAWANA
Face-melting, ear-splitting, mind-numbing, brutal...
This is the closest you can get to an explosive experience without actual loss of limbs.
This is Killswitch Engage.
Considered by MTV as ‘one of the founders of metalcore’, Killswitch Engage mixes apocalyptic guitar riffs in dual harmony and double-bass drum beats with melodic and screaming vocals.
The end result? A head-banging soundtrip that is the audio equivalent of being hit in the face by Manny Pacquiao.
Formed in 1999, Killswitch Engage is an American extreme metal and hardcore band from Westfield, Massachusetts. With the return of former frontman Jesse Leach, the rest of band’s current lineup includes bassist Mike D’ Antonio, guitarists Joel Stroetzel and Adam Dutkiewicz and drummer Justin Foley.
The band got mainstream attention in 2004 with the release of ‘The End of Heartache’, which made its debut at number 21 on the Billboard 200. The album’s title track, similarly called ‘The End of Heartache’’, was nominated for Best Metal Performance at the 47th Grammy Awards in 2005. This epic metal ballad also became the main single for the movie Resident Evil: Apocalypse.
With 6 studio albums under their belt, Killswitch Engage has cemented their place in the annals of rock history with hit singles: “My Last Serenade”, “In Due Time”, “Holy Diver”, “The Arms of Sorrow”, “Rose of Sharyn”, “Fixation in the Darkness” and a whole lot more. If you have found yourself time and again playing air-guitar in the privacy of your own room with the volume up to these songs, then we have got good news for you.
With the release of their latest album ‘ Disarm the Descent’ comes the tour to end all tours. Finally, metalcore royalty is coming to Manila!
It’s going to be one massive moshpit this July 31, 2013 when Killswitch Engage blows the roof off the Sky Dome at SM City North Edsa.
Metalheads from all over the Philippines will expect nothing less.
