Sinulog Blastoff 2014

A night of honoring the Señor Santo Niño through music and art – that is what Sinulog Blastoff is primarily about. As Sonic Boom’s yearly offering for Cebu’s most celebrated Holy Child, more than a dozen local, national and regional bands play their hearts out and commemorate the Sinulog fete with rockin’ tunes and punk balladries.
Recognized as the biggest annual indoor rock concert that stirred up Cebu, this year promises to be even more gigantic with two massive events incorporated into the 2014 Sinulog Blastoff – Pinatikai (Cebu’s renowned annual tattoo convention) and Threadfest (an annual gathering of Cebu’s top clothing brands). One of the people behind Threadfest, Nicolo Nimor of Nick Automatic muses, “The coming together of a lot of artists in different fields is truly exciting. That’s why every year we can’t wait to throw this event.”

Now on its 8th year run and with a new mosh home at Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino, all stops have been pulled to make this year’s lineup a force to be reckoned with. Malaysia’s An Honest Mistake, Manila’s Kamikazee and Cebu’s very own Urbandub will be headlining the show, and solidly supported by some of Manila’s, Cebu’s, and Dumaguete’s most acclaimed bands.

Jomal Linao of Kamikazee shares, “Matagal na ‘yung last Sinulog naming kaya excited kami ulit ngayon, siguradong masaya ‘yun. Isa sa mga paborito naming ang Cebu crowd, para silang naka-energy drink, mga hindi napapagod sa saya.” (It’s been a while since we’ve played Sinulog hence we’re really excited, it’s going to be fun. The Cebu crowd is one of our favorites as it seems they’re always on energy drinks – they never get tired.)

And in the light of the recent afflictions that our dear country had courageously weathered, part of the proceeds will be donated to help rebuild the Cebu City Medical Center and to fund relief operations for the Typhoon Yolanda victims through UBEC UNITE.

What to expect on this night? Nothing short of excellent music, awesome threads, and mind blowing ink. Needless to say, this epic night will absolutely be one for the rock history books.

See you in the pit.
