Rachelle Ann Go will soon be leaving for London for the West End revival of Miss Saigon. Rachelle Ann, or Shin to many, was chosen to play the role of Gigi Van Tranh, the same character portrayed by Ms. Isay Alvarez during its original West End run in 1989. Shin revealed that when she started singing it wasn't even her dream to be part of a big musical. All she wanted and prayed for was to have an album and a concert of her own.
She became famous after winning "Search For a Star" in 2004. Her dream of having an album became a reality as she released her self-titled debut record on the same year. In 2011, she made her debut in a musical and played the role of Ariel in The Little Mermaid where she won Best Actress award in Broadway World Philippine Awards. In 2012, another dream came true as she staged her first major solo concert entitled "RAG Rise Against Gravity" which was held at Music Museum. In 2013, she became part of another musical and played the role of Jane Porter in Tarzan. During her 10 years in the industry, she has won and received various awards and recognitions from MTV Pilipinas Music Awards, Awit Awards and Myx Music Awards.
Shin shared during the press conference that it wasn't even her plan to audition for Miss Saigon. When Ms. Lea Salonga asked her if she has plans on auditioning she said she's not sure yet. Her worry then was she didn't have any professional acting training. But Ms. Lea believed in her talent and urged her to just go for it. With no expectations and just wanted to experience singing in front of Miss Saigon's director and producer, she decided to audition for the role of Kim, the same character Ms. Lea played in the original West End run. She thought she didn't make it since she hasn't heard anything from Miss Saigon's team for almost a year. Then just one day she was surprised to get an email and was being offered the role of Gigi. She treats this huge surprise from God as a new season of her life. So even if it wasn't the role she originally auditioned for, she accepted it, right away!
She'll be staying in London for 14 months, and her family, friends and all the people around her are very supportive. In fact, even their pastor's wife, whom she called right after she got the email, said that there is no problem in accepting the role of a prostitute since she will just portray it and it doesn't mean she is one. The role also requires wearing a bikini, that's why Shin was also worried at first since she's not used to wearing one in public. But Ms. Isay Alvarez said that when you're on stage people will forget what you are wearing, they will be more focused on your talent, your voice and your performance.
Rachelle wanted to share her musical journey before leaving for London. That's why together with her friends from Cornerstone Concerts and Pink Management, she is staging a send-off concert this Saturday, February 22 at Meralco Theater. The concert entitled "MISS RACHELLE The Send-Off Concert," will also be a celebration of her 10 years in the industry. She said she's been to different kinds of music, from pop to rock, to other music genres and of course to musicals… and all of these and more will be showcased on her send-off concert. She will also be joined by some of her friends. Guesting in her show are Erik Santos, Christian Bautista, Mark Bautista and Ms. Regine Velasquez.
Tickets to "MISS RACHELLE The Send-Off Concert" are available at Ticketworld outlets and via online at www.ticketworld.com.ph/manilaconcerts. For ticket inquiries, call 891-9999.
